John Nevel is an award-winning American poet and author whose life and writing have been shaped by imagination, perseverance, service, competition, and an unwavering desire to inspire others.

Known as “The King of Poetry,” Nevel has developed a distinctive literary voice blending vivid imagery, storytelling, emotion, rhythm, imagination, and personal reflection. His poetry explores everything from love, loss, war, and adversity to social issues, faith, resilience, dreams, and the extraordinary possibilities hidden within everyday life.

Nevel began writing poetry and short stories at just twelve years old. Influenced by an eclectic collection of writers and storytellers—including Edgar Allan Poe, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Rod Serling, and Stephen King—he spent years developing a style uniquely his own.

His literary journey includes Sweetheart: A Love Poetry Collection, Poetic Mind: The Collection, and Poetic Mind 2: The Collection. His books have earned multiple literary honors and book awards, including the Literary Titan Book Award and International Impact Book Award, while his work has also received five-star critical reviews.

Poetic Mind helped establish Nevel's distinctive approach to contemporary poetry, combining traditional poetic influences with modern rhythm, storytelling, social commentary, and imagination. Poetic Mind 2 continued that evolution through 50 new poems exploring resilience, grief, love, war, faith, personal struggle, social cruelty, and the determination to keep moving forward.

But the story behind the writer extends far beyond books.

At nineteen, Nevel enlisted in the United States Army and later deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. During four years of military service, he earned multiple decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal and Army Good Conduct Medal. His experiences with service, sacrifice, adversity, and perseverance would later become part of the emotional foundation behind his writing.

Nevel also became a competitive USATF Masters Track & Field athlete, earning 16 gold medals at the state, regional, and national levels, an All-American honor in the 50-meter dash, numerous national rankings, and appearances at multiple USATF Masters Track & Field Championships.

Beyond writing and athletics, Nevel has built an accomplished career in public service, municipal leadership, planning, community development, and public administration. His professional accomplishments have also earned statewide recognition, including being named the 2025 North Carolina Association of Zoning Officials' Zoning Official of the Year.

Yet among all the awards, medals, titles, and accomplishments, Nevel measures success differently.
