

About John
John Nevel, also known in professional circles as "the king of poetry," was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 8th, 1982, and was raised in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

John began writing poetry and short stories at 12 years old, perfecting his style by studying and gaining inspiration from several of his favorite authors, which include: Rod Serling, Nikki Giovanni, Edgar Allan Poe, Nicholas Sparks, Maya Angelou, Stephen King, and Bentley Little.
At 17, John dropped out of the eleventh grade to obtain a GED. At 19, he joined the United States Army, and served a year deployed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004. John spent 4 years in the military, earning the Army Commendation, Army Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, and Global War on Terrorism Service medals. After exiting the military, John obtained a master's degree in criminal justice from Everest University.

At 34, John started competing in masters track and field. As an athlete, he won 16 gold medals (at the state, regional, and national level), 1 All American award in the 50m dash, and has placed top 25 in the United States thirteen times, while specializing in the triple jump. John has competed in 11 USATF masters track & field championships, coached many children in track & field, and occasionally walks or runs in local 5k and 10k events.

John and his family reside in Newport, North Carolina, and he is currently enrolled at Liberty University pursuing a doctorate in Public Administration. ​
